FREE MENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION CLASS IN NEW LENOX


 

Participants of this class learn about the impact of suicide in America, common myths and facts surrounding suicide, warning signs, risk faxtors and protective factors.  Participants are equipped to intervene early be learning how to question, persuade and refer persons who are at a risk for suicide. Participants will be certified as Gate Keepers at the completion of the training. Training provide by Sertoma Center, Inc. and hosted by New Lenox Safe Communities America.

One in four of us will struggle with the challenges of mental illness in any given year.  The inability to work, engage in satisfying relationships and carry out daily activities are signs of a diagnosable mental illness.  NAMI Will-Grundy is the local affiliate representing the fastest growing grassroots organization in the country.  NAMI Will-Grundy offers, at no charge, education programs and support groups in our mission to "support individuals with mental illness and their families through advocacy, education and outreach."  This NAMI Will-Grundy program will provide you with a description of the NAMI Will-Grundy educational programs and support groups.  With peer support and testimonials, we can help you to select the support services best suited to you as an individual diagnosed with a mental illness or a family member of an individual diagnosed with a mental illness, because RECOVERY HAPPENS.  Preregistration for this presentation is recommended but not required.  Visit.www.jjc.edu to register (Course is LLC 5112).

Free Yoga Class - Mental Health Awareness Month - Living Water Yoga

Join us as we celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month with Living Water Yoga.  They are sponsoring a free yoga practice (beginners are welcome!) on May 21st at immediately following the ribbon cutting at 9:30 a.m. at the Pilcher Park Nature Center, 2501 Highland Drive, Joliet, IL.

Update as of 4/4/2016 -  Split the pot jackpot is at $140.00....with still a week to go.

Join us at Ats-A-Nice Pizza for Fundraiser for NAMI Will-Grundy

On April 11th, NAMI Will-Grundy will be hosting a fundraiser at Ats-A-Nice Pizza, 334 N. Independence Blvd., #A, Romeoville, IL from 10:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m.  Twenty percent (20%) of all profits from the orders will be donated to NAMI Will-Grundy.  A FLYER MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF PURCHASE.  

We will also have a raffle for numerous items.  Keep checking our website from now until the time for a list of items to be raffled off.  Raffle tickets will be sold only at the event on April 11th

We will also be selling split the pot tickets at all NAMI events and Support Groups & Classes from now through the 7:30 p.m. on April 11th.

 

Bolingbrook Family Support Group

NAMI Will-Grundy is pleased to announce a new support group in Bolingbrook, Illinois.  The first Family Support Group meeting will begin on Sunday February 28th, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, 500 Remington Blvd., Bolingbrook, IL.  This class will meet in the "Inspire" room.  It will be held the 4th Sunday of every month.

Stepping Stones, NAMI receive awards from AT&T

JOLIET – Stepping Stones and National Alliance on Mental Illness both were awarded Thursday with an AT&T “Investing in Illinois Award” for their respective nonprofit work to help people in Illinois.

“There are great nonprofit organizations improving lives in Illinois. By supporting these organizations, we’re strengthening the communities we serve,” Jeff Adducci, external affairs manager for AT&T, said in a news release

Stepping Stones will receive $1,000 from AT&T to be used to provide substance use disorder treatment for those suffering from the disease of addiction, even if persons served are unable to pay for the cost of services.

NAMI will receive $1,000 from AT&T to be used to expand services in Will and Grundy counties.

State Sen. Pat McGuire, D-Joliet, nominated Stepping Stones and NAMI for the recognition from AT&T.

The AT&T “Investing in Illinois Awards” provide resources and recognition to organizations and programs that improve lives in their communities and the state. They’re advancing education, economic growth, new technologies and other essential community services, according to the news release.
